Joy, nostalgia and memory in the living archive
Ghana We Dey (We are Ghana) re-visits the past through personal photographs from private archives found in Ghana and its diaspora. We are interested in such photographs because they show how communities see themselves and want to be remembered. Journalistic and historic photos show the extraordinary, often from an outsider’s perspective. Those are photos that dominate how the past is pictured. Instead, this platform is interested in centring the every day and ‘ordinary’ photographs of Ghanaians because they are a imporant invitation to re-see the past.
